Journey to fitness

I have recently begun P90X - it's a dvd fitness program. The X is for EXTREME - I assume the P is for perspiration, and pain, and the 90 is because your body feels 90 years old.

There is an hr long work out every day. My modified program: 15-20 mins of work out at least 3 x week. My excuse is that I use my body all day as a massage therapist and can't afford to not be able to life my arms. Also, I leave usually at about 8:30 AM and dont get home until abut 7 or 8 PM... so fitting in an hour is complicated.

So far my week 1 has lasted about 3 weeks. And, plyometrics, and Ken Po are by far the most taxing things I've ever done physically - including 4-day backpacking, swim team, and swimming against a heavy out-going tide to get to shore after a terrible surfing lesson. I'll leave the gory details of my physical un-fitness out .. its the kind of thing you sweep under the rug and hope no one ever finds.

Cheese, Gromit! Cheese!

My husband and I have a tradition - stolen from the BYUH Science Department, who got it from the Head of the Science Department. (Yes, this did require that we spent enough time hanging out in the Science Dept front office to learn its particulars).
Every Christmas/New Years we buy a variety of special cheeses, some sort of meat, and crackers or another bready base. And then we sample them, savor them, and scarf them.
(The Dept head just did exotic cheeses from far off magical lands, so we can claim some sort of originality!)

This year's selection taught me some things:

1. Cutco knives are best for cutting cheese (hah hah)

2. Little Toasts are better than big crackers - even if the cheese book encouraged whole-grains
(They're about 1 in by 1 in and are not only super cute, they're also delicious and slightly salty. This makes them go best with Edam and other strong Gouda-style cheeses.)

3. Savory meat is better with Edam, and Irish Gouda, and Smoked Dutch Gouda than sweet. The sweet we bought is yummy on its own though.

4. Smoked Dutch Gouda is delicious - try it, you'll like it.

5. Some things in life are worth lactose-intolerant bloating.

6. I always knew there was a reason I connected with Wallace and Gromit - I think I too could conceivably go to the moon for cheese if this world ran out.

No, Im not a male stripper!

So I have found some work recently, and its a decent gig. The up side? Lots of cash. The down side? I have to stand out in the FREEZING (yes, freezing, as in WELL below 32 degrees) cold for HOURS at a time. I work usually from 5pm to 12am doing valet at a high end restaurant. And let me tell you, there is lots of plastic surgery and cougars there! (Not the typical BYU cougar, mind you.) So anyway, its been fun driving ridiculously expensive cars, and doing so has really spoiled me. I drive Bentley's, Maseratis, Corvetts and we even had a Ferrarri. Pretty nice cars.... and then i get back into my 1992 honda accord every night. /sigh.

So anyway, I have a lot cash, specifically $1 dollar bills. When I went to the bank to deposit it all, I was really tempted to apologize for all the $1 dollar bills, then say something along the lines of, "But thats just what you get when you're a male stripper." But i decided not to when the teller was a 60 year-old lady with a giant cross around her neck... I think I would have given her a heart attack. Oh well. Maybe next time.

Im working on it...

So I've made an unwritten goal to blog more. So here I am. This holiday season Lianna and I have continued somewhat of a new tradition to our family: ginger bread house making. We did it last year, and continued this year. So we'll see how long we keep it up. Its sure fun and tasty. One of these days we won't buy a kit, but make our own ginger bread. Maybe.
Gingerbread house in the making
Finished. Ain't we cute?

New Favorite Movie?

So without a doubt, my favorite movie of ALL time is Stargate, and amazing sci fi adventure that has spawned 3 separate T.V. shows totaling hundreds of hours of pure entertainment. However, with the opening of Avatar on the 18th, my favorite movie may have changed!

Why did I absolutely love it? It has a decent, though somewhat predictable storyline. Though it was somewhat predictable, it still had you guessing at just how they were going to overcome certain situations more than a few times. It had some awesome sci fi future tech, gorgeous CG, and a main idea (storyline) that boggles the mind. (I wont go further in order not to spoil the movie). They also did a great job at casting, and the acting was pretty decent. One thing that astonished me was how intricate, correct, and accurate the emotions were portrayed on the CG characters. It was a fabulous movie, and I can't wait to buy it. If you haven't seen it, it is WELL worth the money. This may just be my new favorite movie, and trust me, Stargate is one hard one to beat.
