Fire Station

We took cookies and a card to the fire station again, and had a tour. This time we did it as part of our pre-school co-op! They were so nice, and I learned a lot. Did you know that some engines have lots of hoses plus water tanks? Others have ladders, tools, and one hose that must attach to an outside water source. These two usually respond together to a house fire. Otherwise, the second kind sually shows up first. Others are smaller, carry water and fire retardant and have 4 wheel drive to fight forest fires. When you call 911 usually the fire department gets there first!
"Do you want to see these? They are like huge scissors! We cut cars or doors open if we need to with them to save people!" The kids asked tons of questions (mostly "whats that? can we see this?") and he answered them all in a way they could understand. Also I'm pretty sure no wasn't even in his vocabulary. "Can I touch this?" "Yes! Let's pull it out!"

"Do you want to climb in and look around? Sit on the chairs?" Why yes, yes, they did.

Who wants to drive? Almost everyone, that's who.

"If you see us dressed in our outfits, and talking like this, don't be afraid ok? We want you to come say hi to us if we ever come to your house. So just run right up and say hi, ok?" "I won't be afraid! I'll come say hi!" My mommy heart was full of gratitude for their pro-active stance to rescue safety for kids.

COOL! Every time I've visited fire stations I've been impressed with how well they relate to kids. Firefighters are awesome.
